On 30 August 2024, Gcotyelwa Jimlongo, Futurelect’s Southern Africa Public Leadership Programme Officer, participated in the inaugural Women in Development Roundtable hosted by Athari Bantu, a capacity-building organisation for organisations in the not-for-profit sector operating in grassroots communities.

This landmark event united women from various development sectors to share insights, discuss critical issues, and evaluate women's roles in addressing challenges, including how gender disparity continues to limit the capacity of women-led grassroots organisations to influence policies or collaborate effectively with national leaders. The group also discussed how lack of representation also perpetuates gender-specific challenges, such as social and cultural biases, which can undermine women's contributions to development.

During the "Innovation and Representation in Development" panel, Gcotyelwa explored Futurelect's growing use of technology and social media, its gender-focused programming, and the link between women’s leadership and development. She also addressed opportunities for grassroots organisations to collaborate with national leaders to drive progress.
