Futurelect’s 2025 Annual Report: A year of measurable growth and deliberate preparation for scale.

2025 was a year of growth, learning and continued investment in the people and systems needed to strengthen democracy across Africa.

Futurelect’s 2025 Annual Report captures a year of measurable progress across our public leadership programmes, civic education work, alumni engagement and organisational development. It reflects not only what we achieved, but the people, partnerships and programmes that made the work possible.

Reaching More People, Strengthening Public Leadership

In 2025, Futurelect expanded its reach and continued to create opportunities for people to engage with public leadership and civic life.

Among the year’s highlights:

  • More than 8 million combined online and social media reach

  • 214,879 total learning-platform downloads

  • 172 public leaders in our growing pan-African alumni community

  • Public leadership programme cohorts graduated across East and Southern Africa

  • 19 fellows selected for the second cohort of the Women in Public Office, South Africa Programme

These figures tell part of the story. Behind every number is a person developing their public leadership practice, a learner accessing civic knowledge, an alum continuing to apply what they have learned, or a community engaging more deeply with democratic participation.

Investing in the Next Generation of Public Leaders

Across our programmes, we continued to bring together emerging leaders, experienced practitioners and experts for meaningful conversations about leadership and public life.

Our public leadership programmes created spaces for participants to reflect, build practical skills, learn from different perspectives and develop the tools needed to navigate public life responsibly. At the same time, our growing alumni community continues to provide a space for leaders across the continent to stay connected, exchange ideas and build on their learning beyond the programme.

Expanding Access to Civic Education

Making civic knowledge more accessible remained an important part of Futurelect’s work in 2025. Through our learning platforms and digital content, we continued to reach audiences beyond our programmes, creating opportunities for more people to engage with questions around democracy, leadership, citizenship and public life.

The 214,879 learning-platform downloads recorded during the year reflect the continued demand for accessible civic education and learning resources.

Growing with Purpose

Growth also meant strengthening the foundations behind our work.

As Futurelect expanded its programmes, reach and communities, we continued to invest in the systems, partnerships and organisational capacity needed to support responsible growth across Africa. The 2025 Annual Report offers a closer look at this journey, from programme impact and community growth to the people and partnerships supporting Futurelect’s work.

Thank You

None of this progress happens alone. We are grateful to our fellows, alumni, facilitators, funders, partners, colleagues and supporters who contributed their time, expertise, ideas and commitment throughout 2025. Their contributions continue to enable Futurelect to empower a new generation of ethical public leaders and active citizens.
