Futurelect’s Second East Africa Public Leadership Programme Cohort Begins

This week, 26 emerging leaders from across East Africa gather in Nairobi to begin the second cohort of the Futurelect East Africa Public Leadership Programme at the KCB Leadership Centre. The start of each cohort marks an important step in strengthening ethical, values-driven leadership across the region.

Representing countries including Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania, this diverse group reflects the breadth of talent, experience and commitment shaping the future of public leadership in East Africa. Each fellow brings a strong sense of purpose, rooted in their communities and professional journeys, and a shared commitment to service, integrity and accountability.

The programme opens with a four-day foundational seminar titled “Why me? Why us? Why now?” Drawing on Marshall Ganz’s framework of the Story of Self, Us, and Now, fellows explore their personal motivations, lived experiences, and public purpose. This reflective process is designed to build self-awareness, strengthen ethical decision-making and support leaders in developing an authentic and responsible leadership approach.

Over the course of the year, fellows will take part in an intensive leadership journey focused on personal and public leadership development. Through practical learning, mentorship and peer exchange, they will deepen their understanding of ethical leadership, governance, accountability and inclusive leadership, while building the resilience and confidence required to lead responsibly.

This second cohort builds on the success of Futurelect’s inaugural 2024/25 East Africa cohort. Alumni from the first cohort continue to demonstrate principled leadership across civil society and public service, contributing to a growing network of leaders committed to strengthening public leadership culture across Africa.
